Same-Day Crowns

A same-day crown is designed, made and fitted in a single visit — no temporary crown, and no second appointment weeks later.

The traditional route to a crown takes two appointments and a temporary in between: the tooth is prepared, an impression sent to a laboratory, and you return a few weeks later to have the finished crown fitted. A same-day crown compresses that into one visit.

Why it matters practically

  • One appointment instead of two, which matters when the office is open four days a week
  • No temporary crown to come loose or feel odd for a fortnight
  • No second course of anaesthetic
  • The tooth is prepared and protected the same day, rather than being left under a temporary

When a crown is the right answer

A crown covers and holds together a tooth that cannot reliably be restored with a filling — one that is heavily decayed, cracked, worn down, or has had root canal treatment. The purpose is structural: it stops the tooth splitting.

Common questions

Is a same-day crown as good as a laboratory one?
Both are well-established and both are strong. Which suits a particular tooth depends on where it sits, how much of it is left and the appearance required. We will tell you if a laboratory crown is the better choice for your tooth.
How long does the appointment take?
Longer than a filling — plan for a substantial part of a morning or afternoon. Ask when you book and we will give you a realistic figure for your appointment rather than a general one.
