Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening in Peoria — a supervised way to lift staining, with a predictable result and far less sensitivity than store-bought kits.

Teeth pick up colour over years of coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco, and enamel thins with age, letting the yellower layer beneath show through. Whitening addresses both, and it is usually the cheapest change with the largest visible effect.

Why do it through a dental practice

  • The cause of the discolouration is identified first — whitening does nothing for staining caused by decay or an old filling
  • Custom trays keep the gel on your teeth and off your gums, which is what causes most of the discomfort people report
  • Stronger, controlled products than are sold over the counter
  • Existing fillings, crowns and veneers do not change colour, and someone should be planning around that before you start rather than after

What to expect

Most people see a noticeable difference. How much depends on where you are starting from and what caused the staining, which is why the first conversation is about looking rather than promising. Some temporary sensitivity to cold is common and settles after treatment ends.

Common questions

How long do the results last?
Usually one to three years, depending on how much coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco your teeth meet in that time. Occasional top-up treatment with your existing trays keeps it steady.
Will it whiten my crowns or fillings?
No. Porcelain and composite do not change colour. If you have a crown or filling in a visible position, it may need replacing afterwards to match — worth knowing before you begin, not after.
Is whitening safe for enamel?
Professionally supervised whitening using established products does not damage enamel. The usual side effect is temporary sensitivity, which resolves once treatment finishes.
